presented
by the Bellevue Jazz Festival
Thursday, October
7th at 7:30 p.m.
Theatre
at Meydenbauer Center
11100 NE 6th Street, Downtown Bellevue
“without a doubt, the best documentary on jazz that's ever been produced.” — John Kelman, All About Jazz
"ICONS AMONG US explores Jazz in a way that leaves the audience
with a better understanding of its history and an appreciation of the contemporary
complexity of the genre. The film expands upon the foundation set by Ken
Burns' JAZZ to add nuance and insight into the music & culture of today.”
— Kevin Johnson, Berklee College of Music
ABOUT
From hip-hop to be-bop, from jam-band to free-form, jazz music continues to grow and shape itself in ways as varied as the musicians who play it. This 95-minute documentary film takes a timely, vibrant trip through the clubs, festivals and lives of the new generation of jazz musicians.
Featuring Esperanza Spalding, Herbie Hancock, Robert Glasper, Medeski Martin & Wood, Brian Blade and The Fellowship Band, Marco Benevento, Dianne Reeves, Terence Blanchard, Bill Frisell, Ravi Coltrane, Nicholas Payton, Donald Harrison, Jr., Wayne Shorter and many more.
Icons Among Us filmmakers will be in attendance and will be offering a post-screening Q&A session.
