Student Programs
The Bellevue Jazz Festival's three-part mission includes a goal to educate emerging audiences of listeners and performers. We advance the education of younger listeners and performers through two elements of the festival.
BELLEVUE JAZZ FESTIVAL "RISING STARS" PROGRAM
The Seattle metro area stands out from the rest of the nation as the apex of jazz education. The festival’s enrichment program offers promising students a unique opportunity to experience the true essence of jazz. Selected students workshop with noted professional musicians from the Seattle area, and then perform in a professional setting as part of the festival. The participants experience small ensemble play where communication, improvisation and professionalism distinguish the experience from the fully charted, big-band instruction offered in area schools.
The Bellevue Jazz Festival invites high school jazz students to apply and audition for the program, and a panel of program advisors selects players to form small ensembles. The ensembles rehearse at Music Works Northwest (located in Bellevue) under the direction of professional musicians from the local area.
The Rising Stars program will close the Bellevue Jazz Festival, Sunday, June 5 at 3:00 p.m. with a live performance at the Theatre at Meydenbauer Center, as the opening act for the Seattle Repertory Jazz Orchestra.
Interested students currently enrolled in high school jazz programs are encouraged to apply. Click below for the Rising Stars Application and Audition Requirements (audition requirements will be waived for all former Rising Stars who are still in high school; an application is required).

BELLEVUE JAZZ FESTIVAL STUDENT SHOWCASE
The Bellevue Jazz Festival is thrilled to present the Student Showcase at Bellevue City Hall and the Bellevue Arts Museum on Saturday and Sunday, June 4 & 5.
Combos from award-winning local programs will perform 45-minute sets showcasing the rich and diverse offerings presented by members of the local high school jazz scene. Stop by for a Student Showcase performance for an up close look at what makes this area a hotbed of jazz talent!
